Unfortunately, some bad news recently surfaced regarding Starseed: Asnia Trigger, the anime-style mobile RPG developed by Joycity's Mojito Studio and published by Com2uS. The massive region merge update, originally scheduled for March 5th, has been indefinitely postponed due to a ransomware infection within the developer's internal network.
What is Starseed: Asnia Trigger?
Starseed is a hero-collector RPG where players gather and upgrade charming AI anime girls. First officially launched in South Korea on March 28, 2024, the game initially caught the attention of many players with its flashy animation sequences and high-quality character designs. Until now, the game has been operating across multiple separate server regions, including Korea, Global, and Japan.
The Reason Behind the Server Merge and the Halted Updates
Operating multiple regional servers that launched at different times created a practical limit for the developers, as their resources were heavily divided. To solve this, they decided on a massive project to merge all three regions into a single, unified build.
To perfectly align the server merge with the moment the newest Japanese server caught up to the Korean and Global servers' banner schedules—which was supposed to be March 5th—the developers took the drastic measure of completely halting all new content updates after the release of the character 'Yui' last November. They have been fully dedicated to preparing for this merge ever since.
The Ransomware Infection and the Postponed Merge
However, right before this perfectly timed update, an unprecedented ransomware attack hit the company's internal network. Fortunately, according to the official community announcement on March 6th, the compromised PCs were completely isolated from the live service environment, meaning there has been no leak of user personal information or game data.
While they avoided catastrophic issues like data tampering, the blocking of internal network access and subsequent security measures forced the March 5th merge update to be postponed indefinitely.
Players Exhausted by the Endless Wait
The ones hurting the most are the players. Those on the Korean and Global servers have endured over 100 days without a single drop of new content, holding out solely for this region merge. Having this happen right when their long wait was supposedly over must leave them feeling incredibly empty and frustrated.
I had actually forgotten about this game for a while myself, but hearing this news made me log back in. Thanks to the appealing characters, I enjoyed it briefly during the launch window. Unfortunately, due to passive communication and management, it quickly faded from the minds of gacha and anime RPG fans, which is a real shame.
Even the dedicated players who stuck around must feel so disheartened after eagerly waiting for this merge since the updates stopped in November. I genuinely hope they can resolve this security issue smoothly, proceed with the region merge, and finally roll out the backlog of new content to breathe some life back into the game.
